The K Club Golf Course
With two different eighteen-hole championship courses, the K Club delights in its reputation as a truly superior golfing venue, considered both extremely prestigious and eminently challenging. The K Club prides itself of not only the facilities of its gold courses and greens, but also the luxurious facilities that are provided in its five-star accommodations, set in five hundred and fifty sumptuous acres of the County Kildare’s lush green countryside.
A relative newcomer as far as Ireland’s golf courses go, the K Club opened in 1991 and since then has dedicated itself to building a hard deserved and well deserved reputation as one of Ireland’s top golf clubs. It came as no surprise to anybody that the K Club was chosen as the venue for the 2006 Ryder Cup, particularly since the K Club golf course is considered to be one of the most challenging golf courses in the world.
Today, with two separate eighteen hole championship courses, the K Club is pleased to enjoy a reputation of attracting some of the best golfers in the world and hosting some of the top golfing tournaments. Both of the eighteen hold championship courses were designed by Arnold Palmer, and one of them bears his name; considered “both charming and cavalier,” the Palmer Course is touted as reflecting the nature of its designer the best of the two. The other course, the Smurfit Course, an inland links, has a quite different “personality” than the Palmer Course. It boasts stunning, dramatic landscapes, and an impressive fourteen acres of water. The par five seventh hole boasts an impressive and memorable series of water cascades and water features, and has challenged even the top golfers in the world.
Because of its location in County Kildare, visitors may find that renting a car to get there is the most feasible means of touring the course. Visitors are welcomed, and this stunning, scenic course is well worth the trip.
